Just to let you know about some of the resources and courses offered by the Family Friendly Churches Trust.
New Worship Leaders Course.
The trust has been concerned for some time that the Worship Leaders Course has become very dated and so has acted to publish a new one. “Leading Contemporary Worship” is now available as a Leader’s Handbook and a CDrom of PowerPoint slides, OHP slides and handouts as PDF files.
The course assumes that worship leaders will be given more responsibility in the preparation and leadership of worship and so is geared up to prepare worship leaders thoroughly to do this. It includes sections on using music, preparing a “time of worship”, using a data projector, encouraging the “spiritual gifts” and leading worship when children are present. It has been road tested in a circuit and members of the trust have also been given an opportunity to explore and comment about it. In total it has 8 teaching sessions and 7 reflection sessions.
It can also be used as a refresher course for worship leaders and local preachers. The leader’s handbook is available separately and could be used individually by those on the course and also those just interested in the topic.
There are more details and you can purchase a copy at: http://www.familyfriendlychurches.org.uk/WL.htm

Safeguarding
What is Safeguarding?
As Christians we are charged to love and care for each other. This is particularly true where the most vulnerable members of our community are concerned.
Children and young people have specific needs, which can be met by the Church if its members respond to the call to be Christ's people, living in his way. This means living in today's world amongst its problems and challenges, recognising that some of these will be challenges for the church itself.
Safeguarding is about preventing the abuse of children and young people and promoting their welfare. The aim of the Methodist Church Safeguarding policy is to create Christian communities of love and care, where good practice in this area becomes a way of life.
These web pages provide a summary of policy and good practice, news, information, frequently used forms, articles and bulletins.

This Safeguarding publication sets out the current policy and practice of the Methodist Church as it seeks to protect the children and young people in its care. It brings together and updates the advice offered in previous Methodist publications on this topic ("Safeguarding children and young people" and "Safeguarding - good practice for the church" etc).
In addition it sets out the action that needs to be taken by all churches, Circuits and Districts following the decision of the 1998 Methodist Conference that no person who has been convicted of or has received a formal caution from the police concerning a sexual offence against children may be a local preacher or hold office.
Copies of the booklet can be ordered from MPH (Methodist Publishing House) - Price £2.50.
