FAIR TRADE MARKET

Alne Local and Fair Trade Market has been set up to encourage the knowledge and purchase of both locally produced and fairly traded products. An increasing range of local producers offer goods for sale alongside food and crafts from further afield which are fairly sourced. Entry is free and as well as browsing our stalls we invite you to join us for fairly traded refreshments, or why not have your breakfast with us - we sell bacon or egg butties and toast with a range of fair trade preserves in Alne village hall. (Alne is located between York and Thirsk just off the A19 south of the Easingwold bypass.)

Thank you for supporting Alne Local and Fairtrade Market.

New Worship Leaders Course.

The trust has been concerned for some time that the Worship Leaders Course has become very dated and so has acted to publish a new one. “Leading Contemporary Worship” is now available as a Leader‟s Handbook and a CDrom of PowerPoint slides, OHP slides and handouts as PDF files. The course assumes that worship leaders will be given more responsibility in the preparation and leadership of worship and so is geared up to prepare worship leaders thoroughly to do this. It includes sections on using music, preparing a “time of worship”, using a data projector, encouraging the “spiritual gifts” and leading worship when children are present. It has been road tested in a circuit and members of the trust have also been given an opportunity to explore and comment about it. In total it has 8 teaching sessions and 7 reflection sessions. It can also be used as a refresher course for worship leaders and local preachers. The leader‟s handbook is available separately and could be used individually by those on the course and also those just interested in the topic. There are more details and you can purchase a copy at: http://www.familyfriendlychurches.org.uk/WL.htm

IDEAS

The trust is very much aware that leading worship when children are present can be very difficult for worship leaders and preachers.

This is true whether a service is nominated as “All Age”, “Parade” or “Family”, or is a service when children are present for part of the time. Too often churches end up either having a children’s service, where the adults feel left out, or conversely an adult’s service where the children are completely ignored.

Over the years Mike has built up quite a lot of expertise in leading this kind of worship and particularly holding this delicate balance. In addition, Ann, his wife is a musician and writer with 16 novels published in her pen name (Ann Barker). For this reason we are planning to launch IDEAS from around June onwards. The aim is to provide weekly ideas and resources for those who lead all-age worship.

It will be based on the lectionary readings and will provide notes for talks based on these readings, some prayer ideas and suggestions for songs – and particularly children’s songs. Along with these will also be downloads of resources that can be used in worship. Amongst these there will be PowerPoint slides to go with the bible readings, the talk, suggested prayers and, where permission is granted or not needed, the words of the songs. We also intend to offer drama scripts, puppet sketches and videos for download where appropriate.

In addition we will list commercially available resources that fit the theme and also search the internet to provide links to videos etc on the web. We are talking to musicians, songwriters and performers as we wish to be able to offer up to date and copyright material as well whilst finding a way of being able to pay them for the resources we offer. If you are a songwriter, musician, writer, artist, photographer or producer of other resources then do take a look at at our scheme of rewarding our contributors and if you are interested sign up to the scheme.

Note that in all of this the ideas and resources will not simply be aimed at children and young people. Adults will also be catered for. This means that even if there are no children in your church there will be things there for you, too.

We plan to have all this ready about 4 weeks ahead of each Sunday and send an email to those who have signed up, listing what is available for that week. and a password to give access to the resources. We aim to start for July and the first couple of months will be a free trial period. Naturally, the trust cannot provide such an amazing resource on a wing and a prayer and so there will be a monthly fee of £6 or an annual fee of £60, but this also includes membership of the trust.

Do let us know what you think about IDEAS, whether it will be useful to you and what resources should be available through our contacts page.

You can now sign up for the free trial of IDEAS. We will start providing material in June for Sunday 4th of July.
